Heats kicked off with some clean offshore 2-footers and cadets hitting the H2O on the right hand bank. Open men's and women's divisions weren't sure whether or not to proceed but with the sun shining and crystal clear water, "Why not?" was the consensus.
Onshore winds hit mid-morning just before the sausages hit the bbq for the second time, but with tunes blaring in the background, kids running amuck and the warmest day in four months- noone seemed to mind. Although good waves were hard to find by the time finals came around, there were still some stand-outs.
Another highlight of the morning was the mighty Rabbitohs walking by the day after their narrow loss to the Roosters. Nice for some of the grommies to get some autographs, but next time Brad, give yor son Tye a pen that works!
Another great day of surf, sun and snags had by all and we are all looking forward to the September comp where waves may just reach 2 foot or above. Below are the full list of results.
Now for some other news...Speaking of full, what about Dustin Cooley showing up a little full at the comp after the Roosters/Bunnies games followed by a stint on the Retro dancefloor?? And how 'bout Todd Jackson's white-water rafting/night markets/bali-braids and banchongs trip to Indo? Hope you got a few good waves Kane, you were missed at the BBQ (but Epic is slowly pegging back yor dad Todd....)
Now while there are occasional blow-ups at Southend comps, what's doing with Slater at Tressles?? (Or lower Tressles to you locals). Taj was blatantly ripped off and Slater blatantly ripped (on the judges scorecards anyway..) Memories of Phil McDonald a few years back, but us Aussies love being the underdog.
The last week has seen the surf pumping from Forster down to Ulladulla. Booti Booti enjoyed by some of the boys up north, and Mystics providing some epic barrels south of the city for others. Southend had a few special moments on Monday, with "Aquabumps" taking a few shots for their gallery (check out the pres on their website). Don't people work mid-week anymore?!? Hope you got to enjoy some of the spoils.
Don't forget to book a place for the Forster comp on the weekend of October 18-19....See you at September comp, 27th of this month.
