Acceptable Retro Dress

It seems the lure of a ‘free custom made surfboard’ is proving to be very appealing for many Southenders.  A few of you have been asking what actually does qualify as ‘retro’ in order to be in the running to win the ‘Free Surfboard’.

Whilst we are no means the fashion Police, after a little research I have found out the following:

RETRO FASHION

Collins Dictionary states: ‘style of an earlier time’, involving, relating to, or reminiscent of all things past’.

So according to the dictionary you could probably wear just about anything old school and obviously the tighter and brighter the better!

Surfing fashions were very ordinary in the 70s and 80’s (although the tight fluros of the 80s are popular again). Hairy bodies/ beards were actually considered cool! Footy jumpers and beanies were used as wetsuits in the 70’s and HOT Pink fluoro super tight Tom Carroll boardies combined with undersized singlets were all rage in the 80’s apparently.

I would think the terrible styles of the fashion eras of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s including Disco, would score favourably with the judges.  T.V /movie characters (Fictional or actual) and rock stars would also probably feature highly with them.  But really anything goes so the most creative and imaginative uniform will most likely be a favourite with the judges.

P.s: To Scott O’Brien.

Although duck tape fixes just about everything it probably wasn’t used as underpants in the 80’s, but we do find it very amusing though!

Hey Bob,it wasn't no rort, there were a few in the running, BUT any body with the balls to wear that mankini gets my vote for pure crowd pleasing factor!
