Rick McGrath is one of the original Southend members and the news that he has Motor Neurone Disease is obviously not good. Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is the name given to a group of diseases in which the nerve cells (neurones) controlling the muscles that enable us to move around, speak, breathe and swallow, fail to work normally. With no nerves to activate them, muscles gradually weaken and waste. The patterns of weakness vary from person to person. It is a disease that afflicts 1–5 out of every 100,000 people.
During this difficult and challenging time, Rick, Lisa and their children will require an enormous amount of family and financial support.
There will be a benefit night on Friday June 19 at Souths Juniors; all monies raised will be used to provide vital equipment and home modifications essential to giving Rick the highest quality of life as he battles Motor Neuron Disease (MND)
