This coming Saturday (December 8th), the Southend Gromtag team will be hitting the water at 11am for their first heat of the Global Surftag 'Gromtag' event, held at Curl Curl.
Club Captain Matt (Ahoy thar) Lawson and Junior Rep John Semo have finalised the team and organised some training down at Maroubra this week. A bus for the team has been arranged (leaving Semo's place @ 7am) and we will have the BBQ and a few drinks there to make a good day of it.
Our 1st heat is at 11am. We are up against Freshwater, North Narra and you coulda written your own tickets that this would happen in the 1st heat - MSA. Here's hoping both of the Maroubra teams can make it through to the finals. All of the clubs surfing in this event have strong sides, but none much more so that the Southend squad - from what Matt said yesterday, the boys kicked arse at the training session and are in with a good chance.
It's a 16 team draw so to make the final we will surf 3 times. The day should wrap up by 3.30-4.00pm.
We are encouraging all members, friends and families to come along for the day to support our highly competitive team at what should be a great day. Our experience from the Jim Beam cup earlier this year has shown that a vocal crew of supporters on the beach makes a huge difference to the judges perception of the surfing - so come along and yell like hell to get our boys over the line. |
