Register for Paul Baxter Shield at June comp

The June comp is the last contest before the annual Paul Baxter Shield(July 26). Entry is open to anyone aged 14 and over and is a bargain at only $10 per contestant, which includes breakfast, drinks, great prizes, special guests, live entertainment and the chance to have your name etched in local surfing history.

This contest is an open pre-paid surfing event with only a limited amount of surfing spots available. Southend Boardriders club members have first priority to pay and register prior to the event by slapping down your ten bucks at this Saturdays comp (June 28).

After watching the waves from 1st light and seeing nothing over a foot the call was made Comp cancelled. The BBQ was fired up to feed those who had turned up. As everyone was tucking into the sausage sambos a few 2 footers broke. Nothing special mind you but enough to stoke a few. The cadets were keen to hold the event, 1/2 the juniors were the other 1/2 weren't. Conyak and a few of the young lads were to run the Open whilst the Seniors/GM wanted nothing to do with it. After another 15 minutes President Wez Moore made the call "We are holding it". All divisions ended up running except the Micro girls, Junior Girls and Senior Mens. We picked the little left down at South Middle and what a day it turned out to be! There was drama, tears, blow ups, the comp site nearly being washed away by the rising tide and in between all that the comp site moved from South Middle to the right in front of Northend surf club so we could take advantage of the clean 3ft rights which were running for 100m.

Miraculously a small pulse of swell appeared overnight and it was enough to hold Comp 3 of 2008. The small clean 1-2 ft swell was excellent for the young groms but unfortunately forced the cancellation of the Opens Snr Mens and Grand Master
