Saturday March 10 is the official sign-up day for the 2012 Boardriders season. We are planning on making a fun day of it with a BBQ, tunes a game of cricket and even a few social beverages. 2012 will see divisions once again range from the Micros (11 & under) right up until Grandmasters (46 & over). So come on down grab a sausage off the barbeque and sign up for the 2012 season. As we are a membership based organisation run by a committee of non paid volunteers, we do not receive funding from government bodies or have large corporate sponsorship, therefore rely heavily on memberships from both new and renewing members. This is a really important day for the club and we would love to see you there on the day. What: Southend Boardriders Official sign on day When: Saturday March 10 from (11am-2pm) Where: South Maroubra Beach (in front of the Surf Club)<
It has been a busy offseason for some of the clubs groms competing in various comps up and down the coast. Starting with the Barton Lynch Blastoff at Avalon in Sept. This is the premier U/14 surf event in Sydney each year and every hot grom from up or down the coast will try their luck in this event. Everyone of them knowing that winning this event can propel your career to new heights. Little Jackson Giles blitzed the early rounds and had everyone on the beach asking who is this kid. After 3 days 66 heats it was Jackson vs a bunch of North Shore hotshots in the final. That did not bother him and he killed it. Won the final easily. U/14 champ well done mate. OE Teenage Rampage was up next held at Avalon in Oct. Jackson Giles surfed his way into the final of the U/16 Boys event where he was up against a few Northern beaches hotties. He gave it a good shake and came in 3rd. His 3rd placing means that he has qualified for the Australian finals to be held in late Jan 12. Monty Tait came in 19th. Dakoa Davidson and Jack Pacey represented flew the flag in U/13 Boys division and both surfed really well with Dakoa placing 12th and jack coming in 16th. The Wahu Grom comp held at Cronulla in Dec Congrats to Monty Tait who took out the U/15 Boys title. Monty won all his heats on his way to the final and was on a roll. He was the man to beat but he held his nerve and won the final easily over a hot field of rippers. Another standout was Jackson Giles. Little Jacko won his R2 heat but after missing his R1 heat he just missed out on the points needed to make the semis. Unlucky because it would of been a Maroubra 1-2 without doubt. Max McGuiggan came 3rd in the U/13 Boys. Jack Pacey also made the semis missed making the final by a point. In the U/11 boys Tye Koolis came in 11th.

A big congratulations to Plattsy and Danielle on the Birth of their son, Ryder today (21.12.11). We reckon he'll be getting pushed into waves before he can walk. Perhaps we should head down to the Sands this coming friday for a few Christmas beers and a Wet the baby's head - probably should check that with Plattsy first....
Last Sunday the Southend committee and a bunch of members met at the Sands hotel for the 2011 AGM. There were more people there this year than any of the previous years which is a great sign. We are stoked that members young and old are taking a keen interest in the future directions of Southend. A few new committee members came on board (and those that stood down have expressed their desire to keep on hanging around to help out as well), so we are expecting some great things in 2012! Thanks all for a great season in 2011!
For those interested, the agenda was...

Well done to the Southend ping pong team for competing in a hotly contested pong challenge last week and making it through to represent Australia at the Hong Kong ping pong contest in November....All flights and accommodation are provided by the Hong Kong Ping Pong Ban Chong Association and we can't wait to see the boys eagerly whacking those balls across the table!
