In the lead up to comp 2 many contestants, young and old, have been seen in training at the beach trying to claw their way up the ladder to end of season victory.
Young gun Cruz Briggs has been spending more time in the water than most using the experience factor to better his chances and improve on his 3rd place in the first comp. While the oldies have been surfing anything and everything to keep those old bones and muscles limber so that they do not freeze up in the chilly autumn conditions. Tony Johnston, a big wave powerhouse, has been focusing on some rock hopping in expectations for a heat out the reef, and Wes the Prez has been mostly concentrating on complaining about how poor Southend surf and banks are in his pre-comp excuses for first round elimination.
If you've seen anyone putting in the extra yards let us know and we'll keep an eye on them.
I just heard that Matt 'Hickey' Lawson has changed the age of entry to 33+ for the Snr Mens Division just so he can surf in it. This has to be the biggest rort since Epic created the division so he could surf against Todd Jackson.
Sign me up boys, I reckon it's about time I taught these guys that old doesn't have to mean poo-man cutties and wriggly speed reos.
After my lack lustre effort in the Rip Curl Pro I may have to give the Southend comp a miss because I'll probably just embarass myself. Was looking like you were gonna get some swell too, but not any more. Have a lay-day on Saturday and hold it Sunday when the swell hits.
