Wednesday dawned with just a puff of Westerly grooming the waves brilliantly. It was only 2 - 3ft but had a bit of push in it. Wes claimed that he had done bigger shits than this swell, and who am I to doubt that. His friends at the Flinders Hotel seemed to vouch for him anyway.
Anyway enough of the shit talk. The reef was breaking really close to the rocks and Hickey was taking every opportunity to dive between them and check the lobster pots. Got some nice waves but after a while it was getting too sketchy. I paddled down the beach, just past the bowl, to where wes was getting some nice rights. It was peaky, fun and really easy for whacking the lip with a forgiving landing pad. All round some of the best Southend conditions in some time.
It was supposed to pick up more this morning, but ended up dropping off to some 1-2ft on-shore dribble. Still got a couple of good waves, but nothing like Wednesday or like it was supposed to be.
Shazzam!
