Comp number 2 wrap up

Wow – What an awesome day for comp 2! Light offshore winds through to early afternoon, the water was warm and we were lucky enough to claim the best bank on the beach  providing 2-3 foot lefts and rights throughout the entire day. Once again a record number of surfers were in attendance and it was pitch black by the time we were able to pack up and leave the beach – luckily we had an ample supply of bacon, eggs, sausages and drinks from sunrise to sunset courtesy of Tom North Plumbing!

It was good to see the old guard Jason Platts taking out the A-Grade; he was certainly pushed all the way by the young guns Monty and Jackson.

(Rescheduled) King of The Bra

Due to inclement weather and a tiny onshore messy swell the original ‘King of the BRA’ was postponed back on March 17. Competition has now been rescheduled to this Saturday.  (Saturday April 21).

If you have grown up surfing at Maroubra make sure you come down and be a part of it all. Whether you are surfing or not just come down have a bloody good day! A big celebratory night is planned following to celebrate local surfing and this will be held at the Sands Hotel Maroubra from 5pm (Southend Boardriders chief sponsor).

Comp 01 Wrap: Proudly sponsored by Southeast Carpentry

We had a solid week of waves heading into the first competition of 2012. Expectations were pretty high for comp day with forecasters predicting perfect clean conditions around the 3 to 4 foot range with sunny blue bird skies. With a 50% increase in new surfers joining up this year and a massive 78% increase in Micro and Cadet Girl memberships it was always going to be one huge day!

The day kinda unfolded a bit like this:

Jim Gibson wins first $200 ’100 Club’ badge draw

The first official 100 Club badge draw was held at the Sands Hotel after completion of Comp 1 for 2012. It was done on the electronic scoreboard in front of hundreds of cheering spectators and drawn by the gorgeous Rebeca.

86 was the number that was drawn and the lucky badge owner of that number is Jim Gibson…..After a long hard day snapping pictures of the comp and helping out running the day, it was great to see a well deserved winner.

Congratulations Jim you are now the proud owner of 2 fat green $100 notes and are $200 better off just for being in the 100 Club.

Our first competition of 2012 is on this Saturday, March 24 at Maroubra Beach. Wrap up from Sign Up day

Thanks to  everyone who came down to the beach today to sign up for this years comp season or to throw their name in the ring for the cash prizes throughout the year for the Southend 100 Club.

We were stoked to see how many girls have signed up already this year and it was great to see a whole ot of new faces down there from all divisions. Congratulations has to go out to a few lucky people who scored today;

Winner of today’s Southend 100 Club $100 cash prize was Brad Sly, who literally came out of the surf after getting a good ol’ thrashing at Southend reef only to get hassled to sign up for the 100 club – little did he know that about an hour after he handed his $100 membership fee over, his number was the lucky one drawn to get his $100 back!

Also, congrats to Keli Hill and Belinda Ludlow who were the lucky ones to get a $90 Hive Swimwear voucher. As they saw from the awesome lot of Hive Swimwear product that Kate had on display at the beach today, they have scored some of the best surfing-tested and damn sexy cozzies that a lady could buy (or be lucky enough to win).
