Off Season News
It has been a busy offseason for some of the clubs groms competing in various comps up and down the coast. Starting with the Barton Lynch Blastoff at Avalon in Sept. This is the premier U/14 surf event in Sydney each year and every hot grom from up or down the coast will try their luck in this event. Everyone of them knowing that winning this event can propel your career to new heights. Little Jackson Giles blitzed the early rounds and had everyone on the beach asking who is this kid. After 3 days 66 heats it was Jackson vs a bunch of North Shore hotshots in the final. That did not bother him and he killed it. Won the final easily. U/14 champ well done mate. OE Teenage Rampage was up next held at Avalon in Oct. Jackson Giles surfed his way into the final of the U/16 Boys event where he was up against a few Northern beaches hotties. He gave it a good shake and came in 3rd. His 3rd placing means that he has qualified for the Australian finals to be held in late Jan 12. Monty Tait came in 19th. Dakoa Davidson and Jack Pacey represented flew the flag in U/13 Boys division and both surfed really well with Dakoa placing 12th and jack coming in 16th. The Wahu Grom comp held at Cronulla in Dec  Congrats to Monty Tait who took out the U/15 Boys title. Monty won all his heats on his way to the final and was on a roll. He was the man to beat but he held his nerve and won the final easily over a hot field of rippers. Another standout was Jackson Giles. Little Jacko won his R2 heat but after missing his R1 heat he just missed out on the points needed to make the semis. Unlucky because it would of been a Maroubra 1-2 without doubt. Max McGuiggan came 3rd in the U/13 Boys. Jack Pacey also made the semis missed making the final by a point. In the U/11 boys Tye Koolis came in 11th.

Plattsy = Daddsy
A big congratulations to Plattsy and Danielle on the Birth of their son, Ryder today (21.12.11). We reckon he'll be getting pushed into waves before he can walk. Perhaps we should head down to the Sands this coming friday for a few Christmas beers and a Wet the baby's head - probably should check that with Plattsy first....

Southend AGM
Last Sunday the Southend committee and a bunch of members met at the Sands hotel for the 2011 AGM. There were more people there this year than any of the previous years which is a great sign. We are stoked that members young and old are taking a keen interest in the future directions of Southend. A few new committee members came on board (and those that stood down have expressed their desire to keep on hanging around to help out as well), so we are expecting some great things in 2012! Thanks all for a great season in 2011! For those interested, the agenda was... Christmas Carol Fundraiser
Last Saturday (Dec 10) Southend Boardriders had a BBQ store at the Matraville Community Christmas Carols that is run by the Matraville Precinct in association with the Chamber of Commerce, local businesses, Randwick City Council,NSW Police, and St John's Ambulance. The day was a major success for the club thanks to the hard work of all the volunteers who gave up their Saturday to come down and help out. Special mention goes out to Jeni-Lee, Keli Hill, Kate Cass, Andrew karo, Craig Lawrence, Tarki, Brent Foster, Jim Gibson and Richard Cass who all worked tirelessly to ensure it was a success. Additionally I would like to thank Kristina Beecroft and John Perez from the Matraville Chamber of Commerce for giving Southend the opportunity to be a part of it.

September comp results
05.58 am: I peer through the blinds and have to wipe the sleep from my eyes when I see club president Wes Moore already out the front of my house waiting for me in his idling car. It was cold, dark and raining as I gingerly force myself to head out to him and I cant help thinking I would much rather still be in bed wrapped up in my doona. By 06:15am the car is loaded with all the food, drinks and paper work to run the day, the trailer is hooked up to the back of the car and in the strengthening onsure winds we make our way towards Southend. The forecast was calling for flat conditions but when I reached the top of the walkway it was a nice surprise to be greeted with contestable waves. It was far from epic, but definitely contestable! As the smell of bacon, eggs and coffee filled the winter's air the first heat hit the water around 8.30am. Stand out surfers of the day included Jackson Giles (who was busting 360 airs out at will), Max McGuiggan, Milena and Matt O'Reilly. All of Micros (both boys and girls) were ripping it apart and having a go, especially the girls! Even though it started out looking like some pretty average conditions the day turned out to be a pretty good on the beach with the rain holding off until a few minutes after pack up was complete. Southend Fotsul team even had a training session in the rain after woods, followed by a heavy bonding session long into the night at club sponsor the Sands Hotel.. Division winners on the day were: Charlotte Wilson Tye Koolis Melina M Max McGuiggan Jackson Giles Matt O'Reilly Don Giles Jordan Gilbert
